It happened around 7:40 p.m. in Fairfield County on Route 58 in Easton.
Easton PD Chief Richard Doyle says the department received several 911 calls reporting a serious two-car crash on the roadway south of Center Road.
Upon arrival the police officers found one vehicle on fire and the other with serious damage. The Easton Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has ot yet been released.
Easton EMS responded and transported another person to the hospital.
The Fairfield Police Crash Investigation Unit was called to conduct the investigation. Monroe EMS, and the Wilton Police Department assisted in the investigation.
The road was closed for a long period into Sunday morning, Sept. 29 during the accident investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
